Julie Davis Honored with Two National Awards from Oil Painters of America

Congrats, Julie!

Turner Fine Art is proud to represent Julie Davis, whose exceptional plein air work has recently been recognized by the Oil Painters of America with two national awards. Julie received Second Place in the Plein Air Division at the 2026 OPA National Convention Wet Paint Awards, as well as the Landscape Award of Distinction at the 2026 OPA National Salon.

These honors are a testament not only to Julie's remarkable talent, but to the years she has devoted to painting directly from life. Whether standing in a mountain meadow, along a quiet riverbank, or beneath an ever-changing sky, Julie approaches each landscape with patience and curiosity. Painting outdoors requires artists to respond to shifting light, and changing weather, creating an experience that sharpens observation and deepens understanding of the land.

For Julie, plein air painting is more than a practice; it is an ongoing conversation with the landscape. Time spent outside allows her to study the subtle relationships between color, atmosphere, and light, discovering details that can only be understood through direct experience. Those observations become the foundation of her studio work, lending each painting an authenticity and sense of place that resonates with viewers.

Julie has long believed that the landscape offers endless opportunities to learn. Every painting is an exercise in seeing more carefully—recognizing the way light settles across a hillside, how colors shift throughout the day, or how the character of a place reveals itself through quiet observation. This commitment to continual learning is reflected in the depth and sensitivity of her work.

Why I Paint Wildlife

I’ve often been asked why I paint wildlife. The honest answer is that I’m not sure I ever consciously chose it. Wildlife was simply part of the world I grew up in—and eventually, it became the way ...
