Katy Ann Fox
"So please, take it from me and enjoy some lessons I've learned in time with immense gratitude."
Katy Ann Fox grew up in Grangeville, Idaho, a small western American town of just 3,000 people. After high school, Fox majored in Business Economics with a minor in Art at the University of Idaho, graduating in 2009. Fox then moved to San Francisco, California to pursue her art practice, earning a Master’s in Fine Art - Painting at the Academy of Art University in 2012. Her time in California fostered a deep appreciation of American painter Edgar Payne and the wonders of classical oil painting. After graduation, Fox looked to move to a place in the West where she could find a stronger daily connection to nature and the kind of wide open spaces where Mother Nature prevails. She moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming that year, where for over a decade she continues to impact, and be impacted by the community.
In Katy Ann Fox’s work we see attention and reverence given to places and spaces otherwise overlooked. Her paintings often contain imagery of weathered buildings, cracked concrete grounds, or utility boxes, all metaphors for the many quiet places and objects that connect us and hold community together. In her work she depicts optimism, modesty, respect, and harmony through deep understanding of oil painting, color theory, composition and textures. The artist is a continuous explorer, delving into other mediums such as printmaking, pottery and textiles.
Fox has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including Artist of the Year in 2015 at the Art Association of Jackson Hole, artist in residence in Goldfield, Nevada, a vast desert ghost town, selected for a permanent mural in downtown Jackson Hole by Jackson Hole Public Art, and the featured artist in an exhibition commemorating womens’ suffrage at the Jackson Hole Historical Museum. Her work has appeared on the Jackson Hole Still Works Great Grey Gin and Tres Teton Amara labels, which are sold nationwide. She was a nominee for the Wyoming representative for the 2024 Women to Watch exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts themed A New World.
Artist Statement
I am a classically trained oil painter with a grand curiosity and love of the land around me. I plein air paint, watercolor paint, make functional pottery, carve and print woodblocks, and continually observe and learn from the world around me.
My artistic career has been shaped by time outside during my childhood on a farm in Idaho and summers as a Recreation Technician based out of Winnemucca, Nevada. I now have a dozen years based in the bustling and scenic Jackson Hole, Wyoming that has inspired and developed my career after completing a Masters in Fine Art Painting at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, California. I turn to my paintbrushes to create harmonious paintings that showcase simple moments, glimpses of human resolve at odds with nature’s persistence, wide expanses, and the little elements of life that connect us but are often overlooked.
