El Morro

Sale price$1,500.00

24 x 16 inches

Note from Artist:
There is a lovely stretch of road between Paso Robles and Cambria approaching the wonderfully scenic Central California coastline. I never fail to stop and admire the view of the iconic Morro Rock in the distance in this first glimpse of the Pacific as I make my way from my Sierra home. Morro Rock is not necessarily always the most fantastic of formations up close, but in this view, it’s importance as a navigational marker and as a beloved point of reference for this area is completely realized. Called El Morro by the first Western explorers, it can be translated as ‘the nose’ or ‘the hill’ and either works. This view also highlights the beauty of our imperiled coastal oak woodlands. Over 300 native terrestrial vertebrate species use oak woodlands for food, cover or reproduction. The importance of this unique habitat, beyond its beauty, is undervalued by humankind, as yet.

“As an artist who deeply appreciates detail, I always strive for simplicity. I find that I often land somewhere in between, hopefully capturing the essence of the scene, flower, or creature at the heart of the work. I enjoy drilling down into my subjects and learning from each experience, and my goal is to pass on that same sense of discovery and wonder through every piece I create.”
