Whispers of Wonder

Artist Statement:
The young bear stands still, snout slightly raised, eyes fixed on a flash of color caught in a shaft of sunlight. In the air before him hovers a hummingbird—barely larger than a stout insect, yet pulsing with energy.
What strikes him is not just the speed, but the precision. Wingbeats up to eighty times per second, a heart rate that can soar beyond a thousand. And still, no chaos. Every movement is deliberate, focused, weightless in flight.
For a creature built for strength and mass, this encounter is a confrontation with its opposite: fragile efficiency. No claws, no growl. Only aerodynamics, pure adaptation to nectar and gravity.
There is something almost unexplainable about the hummingbird—how so much life fits into such a small form, how calm can emerge from speed. The bear doesn’t understand, doesn’t need to. What he feels is wonder—an instinct perhaps evolutionarily useless, but undeniably real.
The hummingbird hovers, trembling with energy in a world that never stands still. Below her: a young bear, heavy and unmoving, yet with eyes that look as if they’ve just seen something rare.
She studies him with precision—not a threat, only curiosity wrapped in a coat of earth and moss.
His stillness surprises her. So large, so slow, and yet so quiet at the sight of her flight.
For a moment, he is not hunting, not searching—only seeing.
Whether large or small, in nature everything can inspire wonder—and invite questions.
